“It all became clear to me the instant the flute came to the
foreground and a journey through the stars started. THE CARPET
KNIGHTS is a band I never heard of before; I got their promo in
my hands, shame and double shame on me, they managed to bring so
many memories back to my mind, memories this grey world tries to
steal away, but we metallers know better than to lose ourselves
in the grayness.

I still can’t get over the perfect riffs that this album has, I
still play the album in my music player and will play it for
some time more. There is a revolution in the riffs that the
moment you listen to them you gain instant Satori, a mix blues
and Hard Rock norms combined perfectly with the refined Metal
sound of a progressive band and still nothing that can come
close to that. The two guitars manage to create riffs that are
different for each different listener, amazing and what is more
amazing is that it lacks the tiredness of the over
progressiveness in music by some Metal bands. The guitar sound
is smooth, you just let yourself get carried away.

JETHRO TULL, KING CRIMSON, HAWKWIND, PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN
are names that instantly pop in your mind, while listening to
the album, with a definitely stronger influence by JETHRO TULL.
The band moves you away from the norm and creates ten songs
that do not let you down. You simply cannot get bored listening
to "According To Life". The songs change within them and
together as a whole all the time and the most important these
changes do not tire the listener, I can only think how they
would sound live, if they manage to create the atmosphere they
crafted within this album... "unique" is the word that comes in
my mind.

We remain reminiscent of the older bands, that due to their 20
plus years in the scene cannot deliver the raw power of old yet
we lack the perception to notice certain new bands that take
the wisdom of old and transform it into a modern piece of art.
We give chance only to bands that remind us that we have
learned too many names, too many musical forms, who try with
elaborate playing to impress us, and we overlook band like THE
CARPET KNIGHTS that have the ability to remind us why we begun
listening to this kind of music, through simple yet intelligent
music crafting. You should listen closely to "Cosmic Mind" and
"Lost". "According To Life" is for the young fans of this scene
the new JETHRO TULL or LED ZEPPELIN album that must be in their
music collection. This is one of the best albums I have
listened to in 2009”

The Malmö, Sweden based Carpet Knights are back with their 2nd
record. This one took the band over 3 years to complete due to
many difficult circumstances but the wait has been worth it. The
band has progressed into a more spacey realm of progressive rock
with this release. The compositions are more complex, the guitar
solos often mind blowing and the overall playing is at a very
high level. Like the first record, don’t expect to be blown away
on first listen. The Carpet Knights are a band, whose sound and
songs, take a while to draw you in, like a very fine whisky. The
Carpet Knights are for fans of real classic 70’s rock, where it
was about the songs, the lyrics and making challenging great
rock numbers.
Fantastic.

sedan och plattan hette ”Lost and so strange is my mind”.

På ”According to life...” plockar Malmö-orkestern på sätt och

”According to life...” är lite mörkare och krokigare än vad
debuten var. Det är inte enbart positivt. The Carpet Knights

According To Life is the second release from Sweden's The
Carpet Knights whose members have also contributed to Limbo,
Bland Bladen and Hooffoot as well as being involved with space
rock improvisers Oresund Space Collective. On my first listen
to the CD my initial thoughts were of an intricate, progressive
take on gentle stoner rock and whilst the band themselves
describe their sound as "melodic progressive rock" I would be
more inclined to suggest that it's like Jethro Tull jamming with
Masters Of Reality, as this album is full of heavy blues soaked
guitar however the themes and arrangements are far more
convoluted than those of the stoner kings. As that would suggest
the majority of the music on this disc is laid back and
mid-tempo, however fantastic interlinked harmony vocals and
smart guitar work ensure that there's not a moment of tedium
anywhere on the disc.
It's The Carpet Knights' ability to throw out a massive guitar
solo, whilst keeping a restrained and deliberate plodding beat
and add some well thought out vocal patterns, as they do on
"Cosmical Mind", that make this album an enjoyable and varied
experience. More overtly progressive are the likes of "Lost"
which, as do many of the tracks, add flute to the mix along with
some more stretched out guitar passages and complex bass and
drumweaves that allow the song to wander freely from theme to
theme whilst never losing the overall feel of the
music.
As the music sinks in, and be warned it will take a little
effort to fully appreciate the finer points presented,
influences from psych to stoner, or from progressive to folk
seep out of the instruments and with them all hung together by
some deft musicianship and the tremendous vocals, each and every
song is a journey in itself. This is an album that stands up to
repeated scrutiny well as instead of becoming tired and
familiar, it continues to evolve and challenge as you unravel
its secrets. Whether it's the floaty Eastern vibe of "Headcase",
the pointed angularity of "Endless Sleep" or the focused multi
layered "Why Am I", According To Life is involving and
enveloping and The Carpet Knights deserve some recognition for
the clever blending of genres that they have moulded into an
extremely cohesive set of songs.

men med "According to life..." är denna vana som bortglömd. Den
lekfulla och framför allt melodiska progressiva rock som The
Carpet Knights spelar sätter sig mitt i prick i hjärtat. Bandets
gamla skolan.

En 2005, la formation sort << Lost and so strange is my mind >>.
l'album 10:28 min. << Forever is a Long Time >> nous résume très
bien toutes les qualités du groupe. Avec << According To Life >>

Carpet Knight'schen Soundgebilde.

Gefallen gefunden.
Aussage von The Carpet Knights. Die können genauso traumhaft wie
bissig auftreten.

man agiert kräftig gegeneinander.

Il n’y a qu’à écouter la fin de « Gaze Through The Days I'll Hide

nombreuses touches. Ce, au même titre que quelques étrangetés
comme ce « If Soon I Will Be You » aux forts relents de RED HOT
CHILI PEPPERS.
